What is included in our Parquet floor installation service?
Measurement and estimation: A professional installer will visit your home to measure the space where the parquet flooring will be installed. This ensures accurate material quantities and estimates.
Lift & disposal of existing flooring: In some case we have to remove the existing flooring before we prepare the subfloor and lay new parquet flooring.
Subfloor Preparation: This involves preparing the existing floor surface to ensure it's clean, level, and dry. Depending on the condition of the subfloor, preparation might include leveling, smoothing out imperfections, and ensuring it's suitable for parquet installation.
Parquet block laying (with border around or wall-to-wall): Parquet flooring typically comes in blocks that are assembled to create a pattern. The installation process includes laying out these blocks according to the desired pattern - e.g., herringbone, basket weave and bonding them to the subfloor.
Gluing or floating installation: Depending on the type of parquet flooring and subfloor, installation may involve gluing the blocks directly to the subfloor or using a floating installation method. Due to risks of faults, floating installation are not recommended by us and we will always advise for glue-down installation of this product.
Skirting boards and beading: Installation of skirting boards, scotia or quadrant beading round, or other moldings around the edges of the room to cover gaps and provide a finished look. This step ensures a seamless transition between the parquet flooring and walls.
Thresholds and doorbars: Installation of transition strips where the parquet flooring meets different types of flooring (e.g., carpet, tile) or different rooms.
Final Inspection and Touch-ups: A final walkthrough to ensure everything meets your expectations. Any necessary touch-ups or adjustments will be addressed at this stage.
Service Guarantee: All our real wood installations go with 2 years service guarantee.
What you need to know about a parquet flooring project
Parquet blocks are available nowadays in less timber species, than they used to be a decade ago. Due to envorinment conservation laws, industries should use only selected sourced of timber and some forest species are no longer used for flooring products. This has affected engineered and hardwood flooring products. Quite popular today with solid blocks remain the oak, pine, ash and walnut.
Choosing the blocks size
The thickness of parquet blocks on the marker varies between 10 - 22 mm. Thicker blocks have more lifespan and will have tongue-and-groove fitting, which increases the solidness and resistance against humidity and moisture. In general this type of flooring is cheaper (compared to planks) with thinner blocks being in the lower pricing range.
The pricing is defined as well by the size of the blocks and the flooring grade - check our Guide on Flooring Grades. An average smaller sized solid parquet block is 70×280 mm, which will be ideal for smaller and medium sized rooms, as a block of 90x450 mm will stand better in large rooms and halls.
The importance of subfloor preparation
Due to the smaller size of solid wood blocks, parquet flooring requires solid and flat surface. It cannot be laid straight over floorboard, sandy surface or an old floating installation.
Our parquet laying service comes complete with subfloor preparation - screeding, damp proofing, plywood and chipboard installation. Unlike with solid wood floor fitting, the subfloor leveling is essential for parquet flooring blocks and our expertise will provide you with the right solution and advice.
Sanding & finishing parquet flooring (unfinished)
If you flooring product is unfinished, you can have your parquet floors finished in lacquer, oil or hardwax-oil. We can also offer floor staining service, where the choice of colours depends entirely on you. Due to the nature of this type of flooring, parquet floor sanding requires the right technique and equipment in hand. Floorworks machinery includes latest dust free floor sanding equipment from Bona and Lagler.
